Nov. 30, 2021: TUM Emeritus of Excellence, Prof. Dr. Bernd-Robert Höhn was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Ljubljana for his selfless, comprehensive support and partnership-based assistance in establishing mechanical engineering and the field of transmissions and drives at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, in Slovenian industry and beyond, and for building up decades of pedagogical relations with the University of Ljubljana.
Höhn has established himself as a leading scientist in transmissions and drives as head of drive development in one of the most established automotive groups and as a professor at the Technical University of Munich. His research focused on discovering potential ways of saving energy and putting them holistically into practice by optimizing the effectiveness of the entire propulsion drivetrain. Throughout his career, he has continually sought to expand tried and tested core areas of mechanical propulsion through exhaustive, practical research, and particularly to develop a continuously variable transmission and mechatronic propulsion drivetrain, for example in the development of hybrid propulsion for cars.
